Face Fit & PAT Testing
Our aim is to assist our Clients with professional experienced back-up to comply with these Regulations. We have a CDM Department to help those involved in construction activities and we are able to act on behalf of the following:
PAT Testing
We PAT test in accordance with The Institute of Engineering and Technology (formerly IEE) code of practice for In-Service Inspection and Testing of Electrical Equipment. Our engineers are City and Guilds qualified.
Our engineers are vastly experienced and qualified in PAT testing and have worked with a variety of customers, ranging from small retail premises to busy offices and construction sites, in some instances, simultaneous work at multiple locations.
Each pat test will include:
- Visual inspection of the appliance, flex and plug top – Look for any visual signs of damage or overheating
- Open Each Plug Top – Inspect the fuse and connections and tighten wire connections
- Electrical tests – The appliance is put through a series of electrical tests to ensure that it is properly earthed (Earth Continuity Test, Class 1 appliance) and insulated (Insulation Resistance Test, Class 1 and 2 appliance)
- Labelling – A label is affixed to the appliance indicating whether it has passed or failed as well as additional information including the test date, re-test date and Appliance ID number assigned to it
- Records – A detailed record is given for each appliance tested as well as an inventory summary. These records will be made available in an electronic format (hard copy available upon request)
- Scheduling – Our PAT Test engineers will give advice on when the items will need retesting, and these will be scheduled in.
Face Fit Testing
If you or your workforce wear RPE, whether they are FFP disposables, half face or full face respirators, then under current legislation they need to be face fit tested to ensure the wearer is fully protected from airborne contaminants.
What type of testing do we provide?
Qualitative face fit testing
Qualitative Face Fit Testing relies on a wearer’s subjective assessment of facial leakage. The method uses a nebuliser of a bitter or sweet tasting substance to challenge the mask’s seal throughout a series of tests. The test takes around twenty minutes and requires the user to wear a hood over their head and shoulders.
The user will put on the RPE and secure it in position, then the hood will be fitted over their head and once in place, the bitter or sweet substance will be sprayed into the hood throughout the various exercises. If the substance is not tasted or smelt then the Face Fit Test has been successful, if it is tasted or smelt the RPE will be adjusted and the test repeated.
Qualitative face fit testing can only be carried out on half masks and disposable masks.
On-site face fit testing service
Richardson-Hill is able to carry out Face Fit Testing on-site. Our experts will ensure that the test is carried out correctly and a report is generated detailing the fit test results.
